Route description

This trail is a pleasant hike between the two low-mountain Carnic villages. You flank the left bank of the River Tagliamento, bringing you closer to the climb up the Tagliamento valley. The path crosses a ford and some gently rolling moraine hills. The meadows and woodland, both deciduous and coniferous, are home to a variety of animals, such as roe deer, wild boar, hares, foxes and badgers.

The Pieve of St. Mary of the Annunciation

The Church (Pieve) of Santa Maria Annunziata stands on a hill, surrounded by rich vegetation creating an enchanting environment. The church has very ancient origins, although there is little to document this; and it has been extensively modified over the centuries, up until the twentieth. The frescoes in the nave and chancel are in fact from 1940. The red-marble altar is eighteenth century, and houses the statues of the Angel of the Annunciation and the Annunciation of the Lord. The nearby church of San Martino is definitely worth a visit as is the votive chapel at the beginning of the road to the Church, due to the fifteenth century frescoes painted by Gianfrancesco da Tolmezzo, who was born in nearby Socchieve.

Opening times:

The church is normally open over the weekend in July and August to the first days of September, as well as in conjunction with any event or celebration. For those who intend to visit the church on other days / times, is possible to request an extraordinary opening, by clicking here
